This past weekend Jim and I set out for an adventure on our bikes. It was a beautiful day and we decided that Ft. Desoto would be the perfect place to get in a nice ride AND walk the beach after.
Just as we pulled in to Ft Desoto it was obvious that there had been a Triathlon earlier that morning. Huge tents were set up, you could see the transition area and there were TONS of cars with bike racks...and of course Lots of VERY fit people walking around in Tri suits!! I just LOVE people watching at sporting events and races. I am in AWE of all the different ages, shapes and sizes out there getting it DONE!!
After our bike ride we sat and chilled by the car for a minute or two before walking down to the beach. I noticed a beautiful older woman packing up her bike to head out. I saw she a had a BIG medal around her neck so I just had to walk over to congratulate her!
I asked her how she did as I admired her big medal. Turns out...she came in 3rd in her age group smile emoticon As I shook her hand she proudly proclaimed that she was 73...and this was her 95th Triathlon!!! HELLO MOTIVATION!!!!
I wanted to hear her story!! Turns out she started doing tri's about 20 years ago!! YES!!! When she was my age!! She has had knee surgeries and recently a shoulder surgery. The scars were impressive!!! As I stood there grinning from ear to ear she told me NOTHING makes her feel more alive than the accomplishment of finishing a race.
My heart was RACING listening to her! I have always wanted to attempt a Tri...but fear has held me back. I'm not a fast swimmer...and OH those swim caps. I shared my fears and she looked at me right in the eyes and said "MY DEAR if I can do this...you certainly can"!!! She's right!!! I can do it!!
I was so inspired that afternoon! Just a simple 5 minute conversation totally fueled my fire! I went home that afternoon and decided that I WOULD be doing a Tri this year!! I wrote it in my journal..and now it's in my blog!!! It WILL be happening!
But here's the thing...YOU don't have to do a Tri. Maybe you just would like to work up to walking a few miles, or running a 5K. It's such a great feeling to feel that sense of accomplishment when we have worked hard for something that is SO worthwhile. I hope I can inspire YOU!
It's NEVER too late...just get out there and do it!!
